Forgetting to Remember

Now, if you’re diligent about practicing introspection, a couple of things are going to happen: You're going to walk away from this lesson, and you're going to remember for the first 30 minutes or maybe an hour, but then something will bump your container of iron filings, and another ‘I’ will come to the surface, and you'll completely forget about it for hours. Later, something will ‘bump’ you again, and this exercise will return to the surface. When that happens, I want you then to remember that you forgot.

Remember that you forgot. This is so important. Say to yourself, “Wow! Seven hours have passed, and I haven't considered this exercise.” This is vitally important to acknowledge this in yourself, both for the reasons we spoke of before concerning honesty with oneself and to serve as a vivid example of the fact that as we are, we lack unity and willpower; we are fragmented.
